Nowrooz

Nowrooz (also spelled as Nowruz or Navruz) has both cultural and religious significance to the Iranian Ismaili community.  Nowrooz is the Persian new year and marks the first day of spring. Having an Iranian and Zoroastrian origin, it has been celebrated for about 3000 years in several regions around the globe. Nowrooz celebrations in Iran last for two weeks during which almost all business, schools etc. remain closed. Only if we were that lucky here in Canada!  We mark the occasion with a grand annual Nowrooz party of our own.

Nowrooz is also observed by the Ismaili community worldwide on March 21st of each year. According to The Ismaili website,  “it signifies a time of spiritual renewal and physical rejuvenation, as well as the spirit of gratitude for blessings and an outlook of hope and optimism towards the future”.

Two other significant and Nowrooz-associated occasions include the Sizdeh Bedar and Chahar Shanbeh Soory, which we are also more than excited to observe each year.
